Anyone help me trying to start my NC30 it turns over but just won't fire up new petrol put in tank. It seems I don't have a spark is it something to do with the CD unit? It did this morning sound like it was going to go but took the rear plug out one at a time put it in its holder against the frame turned it over but no spark! Its lovely and sunny and I still haven't been out.

No spark eh, thats your problem! :)

Make sure the battery is fully charged. Check the connectors from the ignition box for dirt / water etc. check all connections to the coils.

Remember the sparks can be difficult to see in the daytime, make sure the plug has a good ground, I usually use a cylinder head cover bolt.

See if it's just that isn't sparking or if it's all of them

All 4 plugs on all 4 leads not sparking is this a new CD unit i require now!!!!!

Well that rules out the possibility of a dead coil, it's unlikely they have all failed at the same time.

Theres a couple of things that might be killing your spark.

1. The KILL switch, daft as it may sound, do you have it switched on? Make sure it's not shorting out either, that will remove the spark.

2. Check the earths are nice and tight.

3. Check the connectors from the Ignition box to the loom are not corroded / dirty and follow the wires to the coils, make sure everything looks clean. Failing that i'd say the ignition box is dead.

Try new spark plugs.

They can be a pain and die easily when fouled.

+1 on stickshift's comment on the plugs. I had my bike not start and replaced just one of the plugs to test a voiola off she goes. I then immediately replaced all 4 and it ran like a top.

Tried CDI on a friends NC30 his started first blip ran for a few seconds and then died and wouldn't start again. I then got it home full chock blipped the start fired up and died after a couple of seconds. Any ideas???????

Just to be clear:

You took *your* CDI off and put it on a mate's NC30.
*His* NC30 started first off but then died just like yours.
You took the CDI back home and then it did the same again on yours?

Sounds very much like the CDI is knackered, can you borrow your mates CDI to try on yours?

Don't really want to just incase i ruin his. Have just ordered one off Graham France. will speak to him in the morning and see what he has to say. Hope its hear for the weekend before the sun goes. will keep you all posted.

If theres no obvious sign of corrosion in the plugs of the CDI something might have kiled it. Dont' get my wrong i'm not saying it's just died a natural death of old age / vibration damage. But check for any wire shorts, electrical issues with the bike incase you fry a new one.

Check the master-fuse is there and is the right ampage.. i've seen people short them with paperclips only to wonder why their bikes wiring harness is on fire 2 months later.... :-)
