Hi i've got a 3tj race bike and was looking at fitting a quickshifter, so was wondering if anyone has fitted one before and has some advice for me like , which makes best, any wire changes etc ? Any tips or advice would be good before i spend any money
. Oh also does fitting carbon bellmouths make any difference?
thanks David .

if you're running an air box and then fit bellmouths you will need to adjust the fuelling as you'll have too much air for the fuel. if you mean replace metal with carbon, not a clue sorry!
Someone I knew looked at fitting a quickshifter, was a universal type but I don't remember much else.

Won't the shifter be dependant on the CDI ?
If a doctored CDI takes out the 180kmh restriction and also removes the side stand cut out then you might have a problem. Generally quick shifters use that cut out circuit but I guess you can wire it into the main kill switch

bloody good answer,
and got me thinking, which is generally a bad thing
does the doctored CDI actually take out the side stand switch, or are the wires just linked out once the stand and switch are removed,
if so you could still use it
same goes for the neutral and clutch switches, which all work through the starter relay (not to be confused with the starter motor relay

)
on a race loom do you still have the starter relay ?
can't see it working without one as this controls the fuel pump as well as the CDI and it won't run until all switches are in the correct position
if you still have it you should be able to adapt it

As far as i know the bike has a standard wiring harness, the bike still uses the starter aswell and is all on the button. The cdi just looks a standard one, has all the 3tj numbers on but with no additional marks to say its been tampered with unless there's any other ways to tell?
thanks David

Maybe you're using an M-Max box somewhere then.

It's a plug in derestrictor, it's a generic name. They plug into the loom behind the speedo or into the CDI

or could be as simple as the kpm / mph converter, which fits between the speedo drive and speedo cable at the front wheel
which takes the limit to 180mph from 180kph, so still restricted but you'll never get to 180mph so effectively not restricted anymore

Yeah - but you wouldn't really fit a quick shifter to a road bike, it's a race mod, which would draw the conclusion there wouldn't be a speedo fitted.
