Hi need some help.

I recently crashed by nc29 on a track day going down on the right side and shattered the throttle tube. Got a new one and (my mech the bf) after alot of bother managed to reattach the cable but now the throttle is sticking.

Is it likely the cable is worn, catching or something else? I am supposed to be back on track in Anglesey in a week and desperate to get it sorted.

Bent clip on would be my guess after a crash. You might not be able to actually see the deflection with the naked eye and it doesn't take much to affect the throttle tube. Try and straighten by putting a bit of pipe over it for leverage and bending it, or replace it.

Use a straight edge (like a metal rule) to see if its bent.

Did the throttle housing get damaged? or the cable bent (like 90 degrees) during the crash? These things could also lead to a sticky throttle. How about your hand grip? If your mechanic has pushed the handgrip on too far it binds against the throttle housing stopping the throttle from closing (my race bike does this as the tiedowns I use pull the hand grip towards the housing).

Check all above,, and if not make sure the cable isnt to tight,, they need to be surprising loose for the throttle tube to move loosly..

Thanks you two. I will pass that on to my mech (the boyfriend ) The cable was really difficult to put back on so could be that its too tight (I'm still learning this stuff). Only thing is that it was sticky before the off, we fixed it, and then I crashed so this could be less to do with the crash and more to do with whatever the original problem was.

Have you got one of those cable lube gadgets? Clamp it on the nipple end of your cable and squit wd40 into the little hole, which then sends in down the sheath. Works with all your cables and was the best £7 ish i spent maintenance wise.

Sounds like the cable has been bent and the metal around is pinching it preventing it from moving freely. If thats the case, no amount of lubing will help, it needs replacing. I'm assuming of course you lubricate cables regularly...

Only had the bike a couple of months so just beginning to discover all the things which need properly sorting. Its had a hard life I think.

All fixed for now. We'll see how it stands up to the track at Anglesey on Saturday.
