Fzr 1wg starting issue, was fine yesterday.Fuel pump?

Hi all tried starting the Fzr today and cranking ok but wouldnt fire. Tried the choke fully out and no change, tried again but this time a noise ive not heard before from under tank right hand side, forgive me if this has been covered previously but it was like a whirring noise from a part with the mitsubishi logo on it. Tried starting it again, still turning nothing more, no noise this time and battery starting to flatten. Ive searched the interweb for the part and its showing a fuel pump, is this correct?

If someone can point me in the direction of a prev thread id appreciate all help

Thanks in advance..

the noise should be the 'weep weep' of the servo for the exup. you should also get a ticking from the fuel pump until it's pressurised. If it hasn't run you might not get the ticking a second time as the fuel is already in there. but you should hear 2 noises on turning the ignition on. try draining the fuel from the carbs and doing it again, this will tell you if the pump is working properly. If you dont get the ticking the pump may be suspect.

Cheers Taggy,

I had hoped yourself or Boris would come along.. The weep weep is as usual but the ticking noise of the pump was normal first time i pressed the button, the second time I tried the ticking went on for a good while, even after I stopped pressing the button. Id never had that happen before, needless to say the bike wouldnt fire. The battery is charging and ill do what you suggested tomorrow as the bike's at work..

The pump will prime for longer if the bike's been left for a while, it's just filling up the floatbowls.
When you start it next time turn on the ignition and let the pump wirl away. It has a timer on it which might be triggered so turn the kill switch to off and then on again to continue priming. It should slow down and stop as usual.
Now use the choke and start the bike with no throttle, (which is how it should be done.)

i'd check the wires from the pump to the connector, especially where they attach to the pump, s bit of freying can do strange things as the casin is metal.

Thanks for the responses lads, Taggy you were spot on mate. The wires had actually frayed, so after a lil surgery all is good in the hood.. Didnt spot that first time round doh.
