92 CB400 SuperFour - Restrictor kit help please!

Post by Imp »

Hi, I'm new here but have always loved all things Japanese and had my heart set on a Jap 400 as my first big bike.

So i've succeeded and now am the proud owner of a lovely 1992 CB400 Super Four

BUT I neglected to make sure first that I could get a restrictor kit for it (other things i'd looked at you could easily get restrictor washers on ebay for £40 or so). So, um, is there any other way of doing this? Are there any from other bikes that would fit? Or does anyone know the dimensions for the washers and I could see about getting some made? I don't really want to have to pay the stupid dealer prices for one of the F1 thingies

Hi, I have just been in talks with the bloke who makes the 33BHP kits on ebay for £40 or whatever,

It turns out the cbr400 NC29 kit is a perfect fit. (I enquired about it fitting to a 1993 model 'Big one') ;)

See thats odd, because I sent a message to the same guy asking exactly that (if the CBR400 kit would fit) and he sent this response:

"I'm having trouble matching a kit up I'm afraid.
your carbs are 32 mm and all the 400 Honda kits I have are for 26, 28 and 34mm carbs so they won't fit as far as I know.
I'd be more than happy to send you a couple of kits to try, they all make around the same amount of power so the level of restriction is easy to guess, it's just the actual fitting size which will be a bit of trial and error.
....
now I've said that, the nc29 kit is probably the one to go for as it will be a touch small rather than too big, so at least it should fit ..."

I have also seen these dimensions given online for an F1 restrictor kit for a CB400. So now i'm totally confused...

"Device: Blade
Device Code: B2-NC31-K25
Device Details and Dimensions:
Outer Diameter = 38mm
Inner Diameter 1 = 17.3mm
Inner Diameter 2 = 13mm "

I'm guessing the only option might be to take the bike apart to measure the carbs to be sure but I was kind of hoping to only have to do that once i'm not super-mechanically minded!

I told the guy about the dimensions that had already been posted on here which were (36.5 Outer diameter with a 18mm Inner diameter)

I told him this "I dont have the bike yet, but its a 1993 model 'Project big one'

I don't know if its helpful or not but apparently the dimensions for the washers are 36.5mm Outer diameter and 18mm inside diameter, This is only what i have read though so im not sure if it is right or now.. "

This was his response;

"hi again, it looks like an identical set up to the NC29 so that's the kit for you when you get the bike!
regards, mark"

If i get the 400 that im watching i will get the NC29 kit and see what's what..

Okay, 5 mins of resarching.. I have come up with this.

Both the CBR NC29 and the CB NC31 have 32mm carbs..

Im guessing the wall thickness of the carbs is 3.5mm which makes it 39mm so the kit should fit.. In theory
