3TJ Tank mount quick pins?

My 3TJ's tank is currently held on via two bolts that have been drilled for clevis pins. Makes for nice and quick tank removal and re-install. The bolts aren't quite the right sizes though, appears both mounts are setup for 7mm units, and I've got a 5mm up front, 6mm in back. A friend has suggested going to 'quickpins' instead. Doing some digging I found one place that does 7mm pins that I think will work:

The rear would be ordered without either of the ring options so it would hide nicely in the frame. With the drive out option removal would just be a matter of pressing it out using a handy screwdriver or allen wrench.

Up front, as there's more room, a unit with a handle would work, ala:

I'm betting these guys have no interest in one offs. Is there any interest amongst the group for something like this? If so I'll see what they want for a minimum order size?

Even better, I know there are some handy machinists floating about, any that can make these pins directly? :D

Guess there isn't much interest. Plan B, anyone got a set of OEM tank mount bolts I can buy off them?

I'll try to remember to measure them up sometime over the weekend

If I'm reading the part numbers correctly:

Front bolt - 6x75 flange head
Back bolt - 6x140 socket cap head

Unfortunately, being in the US means none of the local places have decent metric hardware collections so I'm going to have to order online. One interesting note, the rear tank bolt was later used as a cylinder retaining bolt on one of Yam's ATVs...

Ok, so maybe I'm the only one that finds that interesting? :D

That's intesting ... By the way the rear bolt has a special nut - it's more of a thick walled threaded tube with a hex allen fitting in the non-sniffing end. You might find it easier to order them through Yamaha ... or at least see if they'll get them and how long it takes.

I don't know what sizes correspond to Imperial but I'd guess 7/16 is the closest common size (13/32 is the conversion) so try that - if it doesn't quite fit you could drill the hole out.

exhaust stud nuts work pretty well too!

Didn't notice the nut was different looking at the parts catalog, good to know. I'd like to try and find an OEM bolt/nut set for the back at least before I take power tools to the frame, something about proper OEM fit and finish has always appealed to me for stuff like this for some reason.

I'd order through Yamaha if possible, but thanks to being in the US and that bike never being officially imported, the only bit it looks like I can get is the rear tank bolt, none of the other bits cross to US machines so Yamaha USA claims those parts numbers don't exist.

Found a US based online retailer who has all the part numbers in their system for the rear mount so I've placed an order. Now to see if they can actually source the parts like they claim.

That IS interesting! Mine just has a normal nyloc nut on the end of the bolt, works just fine with a 10mm thin walled socket. Might have to investigate...
