Is there a known replacement for th 3TJ fuel tap ?
yesterday i took off my fuel tank to get my carbs sorted.
I noticed the fuel tap being broken, i´ve seen that many times on older bikes like mine.
I want to replace it, is there a known source/tap from a different bike that will fit straight on without modifications ?

I have a 1999 R1 item that I am going to fit to my tank. Wasn't going to do it for a while but will try tonight and let you know

Ask somebody like http://www.projection-components.co.uk/ ... s-18-c.asp if they can make a spigot so a fuel hose with a quick release can be directly attached. It would be a useful "Race Part".
Alternatively. Is this the plastic On / Off switch ??? It looks like it should turn with a screwdriver but breaks. You can use the same piece from a GS500E http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-gs500e ... 3a7469457f undo the retaining clip and the switch will pop out (there's a spring behind it) do the same on the 3TJ's and you can put the metal GS one in. Easy fix.

Re: Is there a known replacement for th 3TJ fuel tap ?
thanks for your input, i do have the quick couplings on some of my other bikes, but here i´d like to keep a standard on/off tap.
I actually don´t know how the 3TJ standard tap looks like (as mine is already broken), my guess was there should be a little lever on it ?
I thought of using a tap from some other bike, that is easy to turn without tools.
I need to empty my tank and check it out (hole spacing, filter height if there´s one built on etc) when i´m home tonight.

Re: Is there a known replacement for th 3TJ fuel tap ?
no lever just a slot to turn with a screwdriver
this pick is of both taps (the tj on left and gs tap on right) after fixing, the plastic bit is now in the gs tap

second is of the gs tap dismantled and the tj tap rebuilt with the metal gs bit

and last is the bit you need to change, plastic one on the right is the tj item which as you can see disintegrates

the gs tap is not a direct replacement as it has 2 tubes coming of the bottom, ones the breather, and it also points strait down whereas the tj tap points horizontal inwards towards the fuel pump

Ahhh - see that's where I knew about the repair
Nope there's no lever cos the only way you reach the tap is by taking the tank off, fitting the GS bit's into the 3TJ tap is the way to go.

Re: Is there a known replacement for th 3TJ fuel tap ?
i looked around and came up with a 2005 Yamaha FZ1 tap, as i don´t like the idea of having a screwdriver in my hand, while balancing the petrol tank on a small wood block.
It should fit straight on, but i will know for sure when i have it.

Difference is the original tap has the connection on the back, this one goes to the side (which actually does not seem to be problem, as it will be a shorter more direct way to the fuel filter and pump)

Cool - don't be tempted to cut down the fuel hose you need to be able to lift the tank to get to the tap.
I guess you set it to reserve so it runs the tank right out

Re: Is there a known replacement for th 3TJ fuel tap ?
just had a look and it's as i thought, you can reach the fuel tap without undoing the tank, it's behind the tick-over adjuster and slightly further back in, which is probably why it was designed for a screwdriver
you'll probably find the FZ1 tap only has off/on, as that will be electronic as well, if not, set it as EC said, to reserve, you may just be able to reach it with long nosed pliers but it's gonna be tight (i think i'd rather be able to turn it off at the roadside in case of emergency
