Are there any decent mods that people have done to nc24?. I am not too interested at present with power mods, (soon will be), more handling and smoother running etc.

Can't wait to get MOT so I can give it a good blast, will be interesting comparing to the Ducati!!!

Bike handles like it's on rails with a good condition standard setup, ie everything working as it should.

The engine should also run smooth as.

My suggestions

1. Renew all the fluids, oil / brake / coolant / air filter / plugs.

This will help with your smooth running.

2. Overhaul the carbs, a must if it's been standing, these bikes are fussy, remove bottoms and clean out float chamber, jets etc etc. Work on them 1 at a time as the jets are different sizes front / rear.

3. Balance carbs after putting them back on bike. Bike should now run smooth. If it doesn't after all this you have problems. Post back after trying this.

Essential Mods / Upgrades

Check the Regulator / Rectifier. These die quite often, especailly if you have an old battery. Fortuantly many parts available to replace.

If it doesn't have braided lines on it ditch the original brake lines and get some goodrich hoses on with some decent pads. If it doesn't stop well now you may have sticking pistons, and / or calipers.

Decent Rubber, BT45's are a decent tyre for this bike. 130/70/18 Rear, 100/90/16 Front.

Exhaust if you want one, scorpion still make a system. You can get their link-pipe for £30 odd quid and then use any 50mm clamp type exhaust.

Replace all the rubber hoses, ie. Vaccum tap hose, fuel lines. Bikes getting on for 20+ years old, a split in either when your out and about and unless McGyvers nearby it's AA time.

Once you've got it back to full original working spec you'll probably find it's more than adequate for even fast street use, if it's not your going to fast or somethings not working properly..

Then unless you plan on spending money which you'll probably never get back and could put towards something else i'd leave it at that.

Check out the rear exhaust pipes/collector box. If its ****ed its remove engine job to repair, new one's are unavailable. I had to custom make my own from s/steel pipe.(don't want to do it again.)

There was a vgc one on ebay the other day went for £70!! Quite reasonable considering the rareity.

I was going to mention collectorbox but thats more of a general maintainance thing. I just listed things that i thought were pretty much 'essential' etc. Which I guess exhaust is like but y'know!!

Oh well, I don't need one now, but £70 was good.

Hopefully once I get the MOT (2 weeks ish) I can take it for a long run and see how she goes. I suspect that the carbs will need a clean, I left them as it revs ok, after 7 years of no riding!

If you do need a collector box and you cannot get an NC24 one,just remember that the NC21 one also fits although you will then end up with the lower level silencer.
Other useful mods;
braided steel brake lines
heavier duty fork springs

Are nc21 exhaust collector boxes still avalible new? surely they could be modded to suit the high level link pipe?

They turn up as much as the NC24 box. Dave Silvers has one in-stock for about £120.00 (Part#18150-ML0-003)



The NC24 box is Part#18150-ML0-731

I fitted the NC21 collecter box as shown above to my NC24. worked a treat compared to my the previous attempts to repair the original. The NC24 collectors are getting rare now
