Im sorry I don’t know if I’m in the right forum, I’m currently converting my rear wheel to 17” rim but confused what needs to be done adout the ride height. Question ,1 will it even make a difference? 2, I have been reading somewhere if you upgrade to a 17” you need to change the “Dog Bone” from an NC35?
Please se attached photo if that’s what the fore mention part is? And how do I go about changing it?

Thanks everyone!

Hiya mate,
When you change to a 17" rear from the original 18" the rear will sit 1" lower which is not great for the bike's geometry given they steer fairly slowly as standard. Best to restore it to the original ride height. You can fit the lower linkage from an rvf, or modify the original vfr linkage, the latter also helps to firm up the shock which is worth it if you use a standard shock.
Good thread here for more info:

You'll need to take the weight off the rear wheel to remove these parts. Some people use proper stands, I don't have any so I use a couple of car jacks and some bricks under the rearsets.

Thanks Cammo, was I on the right track that the NC35 bone would solve my problem? also was that the correct piece I need in the photo?

a 17" wheel has a radius of 8.5", a 18" wheel has a radius of 9"
9" - 8.5" = 0.5"
so how come a 17" conversion means that the bike sits 1" lower? - (I'm not that good at maths)

the nc-35 17" is narrower (3.5vs4.5) and the aspect ratio on the tire is 60 meaning you will have a 1"x.6 height difference IN ADDITION to the .5" diameter difference giving you a total of 1.1" typical
you can elminate this extra "tax" if you go with a VFR750 wheel which is the same width
hope this helps

Both nc30 and nc35 rear wheels are 4.5" wide.
The vfr750 ('94 on) is 5.0" wide, earlier models were 5.5".

yeah i misread the specs you are right, either way you can eliminate a .5" height difference if you go with a 5.5" wheel...
