Reg/rec issues R6 mod NC29

Having a bit of trouble with the bike not starting after standing all day. I think the battery is fubar as it drops to 6v when cranking after showing 12.4v before. The optimate charges it and gives it a green light. The battery is only 11 months old but i remeber my old nc 23 cooking the battery when the reg went.

I am going to replace the battery and change the reg/rec I believe the R6 one fits. Is it a straight fit or do i need to modify the wiring/plug ? Is the 2003 to 2005 the right one to buy ?

I believe the NC30 reg recs are the same so this may help:

Hi.. I think most of these Honda's use the same type of reg/rec. I bought a mosfet type from electrex world. Tobe honest i went for the r6 type but in all honesty i think i should have got a mosfet one to fit a cbr900 of those years as the r6 one was massive and i had to file off quite a bit to make it sit in the correct place under the rear fairing. It still runs cooler and works well despite my modification.

Chaps,

This post has come just in time as my Reg went pop on the 29 and cooked the battery! And I’ve been thinking of possible upgrades.

Let me tell you It was a long push back home in the evening heat, i must be around 3 kg lighter not a happy chappy.

But on a positive note, the GF ram-air box worked very well goes like stink.

I've checked on evil bay regarding the R6 reg's but not cheap, hard to determine if it's the genuine article or some cheap toffee rubbish.

RSVR, I know the feeling. I was stuck in the lowest part of Sunderland a couple of years ago due to a bad rec. Had to leave the bike in the middle of nowhere as i could not start the bike.. Much sweat. So while i popped home on a full bus with leathers, helmet and battery to charge the battery i just preyed it was still there when i got back.. It was with several taxi drivers round it..

Anyhow. I would say if you can get a 5 wire mosfet type go for it as it will stop all this worry. They do break down eventually but dont get anywhere near as hot so should last a lot longer before the next time. Personally I would check out what you can get Honda 5 wire mosfet wise first as it maybe cheaper due to people knowing the r6 ones are in big demand and Honda ones maybe are smaller to fit.
