3TJ swingarm bearings

Hello

I have to send my frame wheels and swingarm to the powdercoaters with no bearings in them. The headraces in the frame are an arse but do-able. Wheel bearings not too much of a problem. But swingarm bearings!?

Last time I looked at swingarm bushes was many moons ago on a 350LC. Is there a way to remove the bearings from a 3TJ swingarm so they are re-useable??? Looking to not spend money if i dont absolutely have to. If I do can I source the bearings from a factor or are they a yamaha only part!? I normally use

Never done this but they're probably needle bearings you could take it to a garage or engineering compay to have them pulled out / pressed in

You can buy them from a bearing supplier if you've got the code from the side (write it down before you start hammering!) and they can be a complete and utter sod to get out if the cage starts to break which scatters the needle bearings everywhere I've found that heat on the swingarm around the bearing and pressing them in ever so slightly to break any corrosion can help but you really need a dose of good fortune and a prevailing wind sometimes.

Low rotation and high load requires a bush and a hardchromed or coated pin. Needle roller bearings are the wrong thing to use for this application. Have you ever seen needle rollers in automotive steering control arms? They would be ruined in no time. Of course this always creates a controversy similar to the 'running an engine in' debate. However if you think differently then please consult a technician/engineer at one of the main bearing companies and see what they say. Why do the factories use them? Because it is quick and cheap. Line reaming bushes is time consuming and expensive. I am going to use Vesconite or Oil Free Bronze and a Titanium Nitrided sleeve in my Yamaha. Some people have reported Delrin as being suitable too.
My Ducati had over 100000km and no wear in the swingarm bushes when running a hardchromed pin. That will do me. But by all means feel free to disregard my two cents worth.

Managed to get all the bearings out of the swingarm. The main swinger bearings I got out by plenty of short sharp taps from the far side. The smaller suspension bearings absolutely would not budge until the arm around the bearing was heated up, still destroyed them budging them though. TA1715Z 'IKO' bearing - will see if I can get one from a localish bearing factor.



All ready for the powder coaters bar one screw for the chain guard needing drilling out.

I know Yamaha charge £28.50 per side for the big main swinger bearings. I wonder what these lot would charge them out at??? (priced as a 4DX1 bearing - same??)

Chris, I stripped my Fzr 600 today and checked the bearings on the swingarm relay. I know a lot of the 400's use the same bearings but don't know about your model. This may help save you some work:

The 'special spherical bearing' is an IKO GE12G and costs about £65.00 from the dealers. I can't find a UK supplier of the IKO bearing.

The bearing numbers are:

93399-99919-00 - BEARING,SPECIAL
Pattern Part - GE12G (12x26x15)
Seals - 16.5x26x5.5


9331721746 (2 Req) - BEARING, CYLINDRICAL
Pattern Part - TA1715Z (17x24x15)
Seals - 17x24x4

9331731701 - BEARING, CYLINDRICAL
Pattern part - TA1720Z (17x24x20)
Seals - 17x24x4

Make sure you tape up the head bearing,and swing arm bearing surfaces,
Or make sure you tell the guy who is doing the work,
Becuase you will have a nightmare cleaning them after.

Thanks for the help looking. The little bearing is as you mentioned 17mm I/D 24mm O/D and 15mm wide. I am giving a few numbers a ring this afternoon. Got the 3TJ partsbook so will compare it with the Yammy part 93317-21746 price.
