So, the bike has recently been given a good spring clean (the usual fluids/filters/pads/etc.) and a carb rebuild and retune seeing as the previous owner thought sealing the insides of the carbs with silicon was a good idea.
It was running fine recently, and still does. However a noise has started over the last few days and with me being away from home i don't really want to take too much off the bike with the limited set of tools i have here.
Here's a link to a video, showing the noise and then with the engine on (can kind of hear it speeding up with the engine - may just be me). It does sound like a pump of some sorts although i could be wrong and dont fancy taking on the task of a job i cant finish at the moment... any help diagnosing this would be appreciated.
Another thing i have noticed is there seems to been an electronic rev limiter that occasionally comes on at around 4.5K revs. And is worse when either the headlights or indicators are on... i suck at electricalss... any ideas?

Mate, that should be the fuel pump priming but clearly it isn't... check you've put the fuel filter in the right way round
ciao e buona serata...a proposito, bellissimo il video! .... from Ilaria

could it be spmething in the starter clutch catching or slipping? might be worth dropping the peanut cover off to see if there's a problem with any of the teeth on the gears in there. it sounds a bit loud for the relay, they more tick than grng when they play up!

That sounds like the exup valve servo trying to cycle. the gears could be stripped.
See if the valve on the exhaust is trying to move. It might be the pump but that should "click" and stop after a couple of seconds. I have a servo motor you can have for postage costs if you need it although the valve would need sorting first.

Evil, the garage replaced my fuel tap a few weeks ago so that sounds likely also seeing as the f*ckers dropped my nice shiny unmarked tank.
ahh brilliant, il start taking it apart again tomorrow and go for there.
also, thanks for the parts offers, il let you know if i need them.

i was working on the assumption that you were only turning the ignition on not thumbing the starter button. If that's right then it won't be the starter.
2 things happen when you turn the ignition on:
The exup servo cycles open and closed then stops - take off the chrome cover on the exhaust then take off the pulley and see if you can turn the exup clockwise and then anti clockwise to see if it's free.
The fuel pump primes - and continues to prime until the float bowls are full. Because your noise is continuous I think it's the fuel pump and it could be it's not getting fuel to it ... so I suspect the filter is in wrong way round or as the tap has been done there's something wrong there. Maybe it's not fully on and the pump can't draw enough fuel

now i'm back off work for i bit i've had a look. its definitely the exup valve.
now before i take off the cover and have a look, it was mentioned that the case/bolts and whatnot could shear/cause problems.. anything to look out for?
