New to CB400, have few questions...

Hi all,
i just bought a CB400SF, produced in 92 and imported in uk in 97..
the bike is great, however I have few questions since i'm not very familiar with this model:
is currently fitting a 120/70-17 front and a 160/60/17 rear, i think i read somewhere that tyres dimensions were different in 92 models, do you think the owner changed the rims also or they can fit different size??
When I purchased I noticed that at around 5k there is a sort of misfire ( I read a couple of topics were apparently is quite normal) but the seller told me it was restricted.
Now how do I know if my bike has the Jap restriction (should cut rpm in 6th gear i think i read) or has it the 33bhp uk restriction?? It has no certificate and passed the 5-6k it goes up to 10 11k as i tried so far...
i'm coming from a cbr600 so I can feel the difference in power but i can/t tell if has 33 or 50 bhp...
anyone can help me in this?

Hi the standard size tyres for a 92 honda cb400 sf are 110/70-17 front and 140/70-17 rear so you have oversize tyres on but if you have no clearance problems or handling problems they would probably be ok. If you had a standard jap restrictor you would not be able to go above 180kph and if you have a 33bhp restrictor you would see washers in the rubber carb inlets with the carbs off and if you search this site you will see much about the restrictors you get on the cb400 sf all the best Rick

Hi Rick,
thanks for this,
I think I read somewhere that early models had 18'' on front, that's why I got confused.
honestly I don't want to take out carbs just to check as I'm not very familiar with those, I was wondering if the 33bhp restriction affects the rpm or there is any other way apart from checking the carbs inlets...

Hi the 33bhp restrictors would not change the revs at 5000rpm only this sounds like the jap restrictors. the 33bhp restrictors would lower the top speed to about 90mph but give smooth power up to this speed. The jap restrictors would cut the revs at a speed of 180kmph but as i say look through the cb400sf workshop section click the box at the bottom and look backthrough the section and you will see several items on the restrictors and how to disable them the 33bhp ones only if you have a not restricted licence all the best Rick

Hi all,
thanks for your answers
i read about this jap restriction, apparently since the clocks have been changed now the cdi cuts at 5k no matter what gear i'm on, since the restriction at the clock is no longer there the cdi still cuts the power. I read i could solve this simply making a "bridge " with 2 wires and link them with a fuse, is there anyone in London area who has done it and could give me an hand or do the job??
Another thing, I noticed that all the other SF have the temp gauge in the clocks, well mine hasn't. The clocks have been changed, what would it take to replace it? how do i tell if at least the cable is still there or everything has been removed?

Temperature gauges were added later I believe. Mines a 1993, and also doesn't have one (just a temperature warning light).

Hi,
the thing is that i don't even have the temp light!!!
I took apart the clocks yesterday and i saw on the bottom of the right clock ( where the rpm is) that there is thing that looks like suitable for a gauge so i could probably fit one....
then i saw that behind the speedo there is a 3wires connector which is not connected to anything ( I supposed it was connected when the original clocks were in), the green wire is free while the other 2 (orange/blu and black i think) are connected togheter in a small connector bu without resistor, that's what probably causes the misfire at 5k.
any expert in London area??
