What would be the essentials for the bike, and what to avoid?

I was thinking about anodised bar ends, mirror finish iridium screen, one of those lovely flame exhaust cans, some neons for inside the fairing, etc. to start with.......





Not really.

But, what exhaust, carbon bits, go faster parts, should one acquire?

I have looked at an OKI fairing set on ebay.

Tips and pointers greatly received but I may not pay much attention to them

So many parts to chose from, it's really a case of what you think looks cool. Avoid most replica parts, or imported items other than from reputable companies. Jap4performance are the importers for Tyga goods (which I highly rate).

hope you got small hands though, as according to the dumb, these V4's are impossible to work on.

12000miles, original panels, MOT/TAX.

As you'll notice all my current bikes are based around Yamahas. When I first rode bikes I was a Kwak guy, 3 ZXR750's and first big bike was a GPZ600R. I've owned one Suzuki in 25 years of riding. Not one Honda! I probably shouldn't admit that in this area I have ridden a CBR400 once but have not ridden any other Honda.

I'll have the Bim, FZR, and VFR from the 400 range then all I need is a GSXR400, ZXR400, FZR400 3TJ, Honda RVF400, Honda CBR400, etc, etc.......

No ripping, that's nice! What sort of price may I ask?

Looks nice and original , depends I'd you want it to stay looking like that or go down the race replica route , things like the Rick Oliver fork kit , race system is a must , ect ect ect .

It's easy to get carried away with bits

Looks mainly stock apart from the end-can.

It's the later model so has the better forks and rear-shock.

How's it running?

Few pointers / common things with these bikes.

* People fettle the carbs and airbox without the right knoweldge, Cammo's carb guide will give you a clear explanation of how to clean, service and re-jet if needed the carbs, the parts are different in the front and rear-carbs so if it's fluffy at all or not quite as crisp then this is an excellent place to start.

* Fuel tap is vaccum operated, the small rubber tubing can deteriorate with age so it's always worth replacing on a new bike, if it breaks when your out and about the bike stops!

* Check the battery is good and the charging system is working, there known to fail easily, especially with an older battery.

Apart from that, there bullet proof bikes.

Brakes usually work very very well, any lack of performance will be down to dirt and wear.. you can overhaul the calipers and M/C quite cheaply or there is the option of bolt on fireblade calipers and MC for extra stopping power (you'll need an adapter from Rick O etc)

As I said above the later forks are cartridge type so really good, if anything the rear might be a bit tired, the later one like yours has a remote resevoir and isn't too bad.. if your looking for some serious riding you can have the shock rebuilt as the cheaper option or replace it with an aftermarket (quantum / white power / ohlins etc)

Even in stock form they still ride really well... depending on your riding style some bt090/92's are a good choice of rubber.

Just keep the chain clean, fluids fresh and it should be a very rewarding experience!

Great post for a V4 beginner there neosophist. I'll do a filter and fluid change when I get it.

Luckily I've got small hands so working on it should be fine. I've managed with the YB7 and that's quite erm...compact.

I guess I should just run it for a while, before I decide to do anything. If I do go for the race rep look I'll keep all original parts.

I used to be a Yam owner, had a few FZR600s but have definately switched to Honda now.
Saying that, I'd still put another Fizzer back in the garage if the right opportunity arose :)
