Okay so not been on here for a while, So hello all again.

I have got hold of a new stainless collector and while I'm doing this the frame and other things are getting a good clean and paint.

The engine is in so poor condition externally I decided to order some paint for it but I am no in the debacle that should I strip the engine and clean each part and paint them and then re-assemble with this kit (yes i know the head gasket needs modifying to get it to fit, but does the other gaskets and seals fit?) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-VFR400- ... 255f289412

If you say that the kit will fit then the engine is coming apart tomorrow

Do you mean the engine is in poor mechanical condition? (things wrong with it!?)

Unless you need to remove cases for a specific reason it seems like a waste of 70 quid to me.

The only cases you should remove while the engine is out the frame are the rockerboxes to adjust and check the valve clearances, these are on rubber gaskets so don't need a kit.

You can make a fantastic job of painting the engine with it assembled.

Wire brush it all down and degrease it and sand any rough paint smooth.

Spend your time masking things properly and it'll look good.

I really wouldn't split an engine to paint it. If you want to paint the side cases sepearatly you can buy a genuine honda clutch gasket / genny gasket and sump gasket for about 20 quid from david silvers.

Nothing mechanically wrong,

Just very mucky, flaky and bare metal.

I'm wire brushing it down currently, just wondered if would be better to strip it.

Thanks again for the advice
