hi guys serious prob with the fzr 86 model genesis . just spent £200 on carbs being sorted cleaned out and set up as it ran badly . it worked for all but 24hrs . now when it is warmed up /in traffic it stutters and sometimes cuts out in low revs any advice appreciated .
also on the same bike (which has just had the tank off ) the 2 screws that go into the side of the tank cover , do they actually go into the side of the tank itself ? you see the garage would have removed this and im suspecting they have lost the original screws and put longer ones in , thus drilling them straight into the side of the fuel tank itself , i wanna know before i accuse anyone of wrong doing if yo know what i mean . i just went to have a look at carbs and when i went to undo these screws petrol started to leak out of the thread . yours desperately depressed 24hrs before donnington park trackday , neil .....

Have you checked the valve clearances, if they're tight they can cause similar issues. If you're happy that the carbs were done properly I'd be inclined to do a valve check first to have a good starting point to work from and then try to eliminate other causes.

Can't help with tank question different model to mine.

You were ripped matey! I'd have fully refurbed them for £75 (including zinc plating all the external bits) including Recorded Delivery postage back to you.

You might have the carbs sonically cleaned and new seals put in ???

If the valeves were out I'd expect the bike to difficult to start but run ok once the it was warm. Check it with a compression test - do it dry and then wet, if they're low and the wet one is higher than the dry then suspect the valves.

Really though I'd be looking at the emulsion tubes - they get worn and if the needles aren't centered the fuel doesn't atmoise well and it won't run properly.

Blame them for the tank, you'd have noticed it was leaking if it was done before.

I have the same problem on my bike (86 genesis grey import) turned out to be a electrical fault (low battery) as wasn't charging due to the stator being knackered. (still is, got a replacement but can't get it fitted) I have 2 batt's that i have to swap regularly and it runs fine as long as batt has good charge.

just my 2pence worth but check your batt..!

just nipped down the workshop n checked my tank, yes the screws attaching the tank cover do attatch to the tank but do not go through into the tank, so your guess of longer screws puncturing your tank sounds about right.

thanks q007 , thought that might be the case , im bloody fuming but cant be certain they did it or the guy who had it before me , had the tank screws out before but who is to say there wasnt enought fuel in there to leak out the holes ! certainly none of my doing .....
