my 4/6 engine swap, and other mods....

Post by scooby4/6 »

Hi all,

just thought i'd do a little thread about my engine swap, and a few other mods along the way for those that are really bored....

Also any tips/advice on a few probs i have would be nice also :)

mods already done..

zxr400 front end
r6 rear shock
ram air system
F/S carbs
SP 1 front calipers,brembo m/c+braided lines
relatively standard t/cat engine
dynapro ECU+quickshifter

various other little tweaks to lighten it up a bit.

rear subframe chopped
sprocket cover drilled
side stand/bracket removed (about 3-4 kg just in that)

as the bike stood after it's initial swap into a 4/6

yea i really like/d the Marlie colours, unfortunately after 2 mishaps it no longer looks quite as nice and clean

forgot to add that theres a custom built stainless exhaust system on it aswell, and after fitting that it went on the dyno to get the fueling all set up with the F/S carbs/exhaust+cdi unit.

put out a healthy 100 r/w BHP,10 up from the standard carbs/exhaust+cdi unit.

but then i crashed it......

so after my 2nd crash on it at oulton, which didn't result in much damage thankfully, fairing, engine case bent levers etc it got packed away for the rest of yr as i'd finished re building the blade by then  .

so as it stands now,the engines back, bikes stripped ready to dropout the old engine

it's a homemade ram/air box, made from glass fibre.i'll put a pic up of it later.

ran into a small hitch atm,the mouints on the head of the new engine are different (as in there aren't any mount holes on it!!!!),didn't realise the heads are were different on the 4(he?) and the 3(insert some more numbers here).so will be doing a bit of head scratching later to decide the best route to go down.

if anyone has a bike (t/cat or hybrid), with the earlier engine fitted,a pic of how it mounts would be nice.

i'll take some pics when i get home to show what i mean.

ahh dont you just love project bikes

You will have to make a cradle to hang the motor from the front
there was a member here who had a early 400 engine in a 3tj frame.

There still is, I bought the bike on Monday

If you search through MarkT's threads there'll be a pic of the 3TJ chassis with a 1WG engine fitted, I'll get some closer up pics for you over the weekend if you like as we've got the bike stripped to check it over.

Once we've got the bike back here (it's in our garage at the minute) I'll take some more pics and measurements for you.

4JH for the Foxeye and 3HE for the older FZR600.

How about getting some ally mounts welded to the head - they'll probably come in somewhere near the fins on your head.
