just striped the bike down this afternoon, ready for the new bearings, chain and sprockets
all the panels off,
front and back lifted,
calipers off and front wheel out,
sprocket cover off, but the nut on the front sprocket is on there like a good un,
so before i get savage with it we are talking about a left handed thread on the sprocket ?,
cos i put a piece of wood under the swingarm between the spokes, then used a 1/2 drive socket with a 4" length of scaffold tube on the end and nuthin, in actual fact i nearly snapped the piece of wood
i know these are renowned for being a bitch to get off but this is silly,

as for the front wheel how does the speedo drive ring/locator come out, there's a large seal on that side and it's behind that, so i'm thinking i need to take this out to remove the speedo ring/locator, it makes sense to me, if so then i'm gonna need a new seal as well, but is this correct

iv'e done it, just as i thought seal out and the jobs a goodun, so that's another part to order

its a normal nut. lefty loosey type mine wouldnt shift til it got the dugga dugga gun treatment.

just borrowed a snap-on dugga dugga thing, but the battery's flat so it's gonna have to keep till the morning, but at least i won't be tightening it up

EDIT: couldn't leave it alone so i tried the 1/2 socket drive with the 4" scaffold tube (going the right way) and after an almighty crack the nut broke loose,
so the front sprockets off and the back wheels now out, as are the bearings

just waiting on the postie now

Problem is they'll flatten a bike battery in no time. Much better off with the 240v or 110v version if you're on a budget.

the snap-on one works a treat once charged

anyway chain & sprockets are ordered as are the bearings and seals, iv'e drained the oil out, and pick up the oil and filter monday as well as the coolant (got a mate with a workshop who does the filters and oil and ready mixed coolant just buy what you need)

so i'm just waiting and having a look at what else needs attention, whilst i got her stripped down, and thought the clutch worm drive has been giving me some jip and i haven't been able to adjust it for a while, so as i got the sprocket cover off anyway i had a look,
to start with the 2 screws that hold it in place are locktighted in but the dugga dugga gun got that job done, well what happened next was not pretty,
the worm drive has an inner and outer part with rifeling and this is where the ball bearings run and these are held in place by a thin tube of metal with holes in that goes between the iner and outer parts so when the cable pulls the center, as the outside is held by the 2 fixing screws, then the center is pushed outwards and onto the clutch push rod
well not on mine the center tube had disintegrated and most of the ball bearings have disappeared,
so there's gonna be a post in the for sale wanted section shortly for the worm drive or the complete sprocket cover with worm drive if anyone's got one that would be much appreciated

While you're in the maintenance mode take the shock linkage and swingarm and grease the bearings and bushes

ive got a sprocket cover, think everyting is still attached to it! will double check for you tomorrow.
