Bandit 400 Engine into GK73A - Variable Valve Sucks Help

Post by chaslam07 »

Hi, as nobody has yet taken me up on the possible spare parts, im thinking of putting in a bandit 400 engine of a 1991, into my 1989 gk73a, i believe it will pickup on the same bolts? but what else will i need to change, for example, the wiring loom ? carbs ? starter motor ? or is it just a case of pluggin my gk73a parts into the new engine and it will work ? thanks

Bandit and 73a share the same cases so it will go in ok.
Everything will connect straight up but there are small differences.
The B4 uses different rubber carb mounts and there are different jets in the carbs so you may need to do a little setting up after it is running.
'P' model B4 and on have different trigger and will not run.

hi thanks, sounds good, so are you saying i will still be able to use the gsxr400 parts but once running they will need setting up properly, Dyno ? and by P do you mean reg, if it is before P it will work will everythin connecting up but if its after P it will need a new trigger ? sorry for the question just would like to know all i can before i buy the engine and then get it fitted as quickly as possible, thanks

Did you used to or still do sell the o rings for the carbs as i will be changing these at the same time as it is a common problem with these old bike isnt it

1991 is 'M' i think, you can run them ok or even fit the gk73a inlet cam, this is the only major difference tho there is very little in them.
You will need to fit the 73a inlet manifolds tho as these are very different.
o'rings £11 posted PM me.
