HI,

The bottom (near the drain hole) on my silencer is rotting and this is causing me annoyance. I was just wondering if i could resleeve the silencer legally as then it would have no Honda or road legal markings on it.

Also where can i get sleeves from as i can no longer see them on fleabay

Richard

I don't see why it would be illegal since you aren't modifying the internals, but you would have to convince the inspectors that you have a legal can...isn't there any way you can transfer the badging?

all the badging on the NC24 silencer is stamped in,

I do have a link pipe and race silencer but then thats in relms of illegalness as it says "NOT FOR ROAD USE" on it and a silncer off fleabay to fit this is a Hawk road legal at £130 and i dont fancy spending that.

AFAIK aslong as your can isnt stamped "not for road use" or something similar then you will be fine. Obviously if it sounds like a jet figher @ mach 10 expect it to fail the MOT and attract unwanted attention. I spose if you really pissed off a VOSA copper then im sure they would find something illegal in it but in general you will be fine.

The standard silencer is quiet so thats cool.

Just umming and ahhring whether to resleeve this, use a race can or buy a silencer to fit my link pipe.

Just make the not for road use stamp on your race can disapear and use it adding a screw in baffle off fleabay if to loud and put your standard can back on for the mot easy

My unbranded carbon fibre exhaust can had been holed when I bought the bike - it had been covered with an aluminium patch under the strap mount.
I ended up pulling the thing apart, cutting the carbon sleeve down to get rid of the damage, cutting the baffle pipe down to match, repacking with muffler wool and reassembling. It's not much louder than before, I think, but quite short!

The can had been engraved around the exit with the required BS markings so that's legal according to the letter of the law; if your exhaust is unmarked and 'a bit loud, mate,' it'll be questioned.
Luckily, there's an eBay seller who sells ally plates, stamped with the BS details, that can be easily rivetted on to any unmarked can...
