i think you need to use anti-rust primer and then the high temp paint...
not saying it doesn't exist but i've never come across high temp paint that had anti-rust properties also

I was thinking the same thing but im not sure how heat proof the primer is and if that breaks up and flakes or bubbles then the problem remains the same.
It must exist in theory as theres too many applications in which it could be used for, im going to ask somewhere that specializes in marine equipment as it might point me in the right direction, once i get a product name i can find a cheaper one!
Ill post the results!

Any VHT type exhaust header paint will do, halfords sell it.
Rub them down and paint them, would be easier with them off but you need to remove the engine to get it off.
Also, they rot from the inside out too so it's a bit of a loosing battle.

Vht your only budget option really, but is porus to let the heat out & will rust in time. Regular recoating does help.

Thanks ill have a look, the other product i was looking at was a rust convertor from toolstation that is black in colour its a little cheaper than the VHT stuff but im unsure of the heat rating.
The rust convertor has one benefit over the VHT, if it works, as its brush paintable!

the only way you will stop the rust coming back is to chop it off and replace the rusted part. anti rust treatments only work on the first micron or so of rust any rust underneath carries on the advice to just keep redoing it is your best bet .a good wire brush up and brush some bbq paint on and re do it as req
