Question gang.Is it worth getting my bike out the shed and running it periodically whilst I potter around the garden or am I just wearing the engine?

I have read the occasional run can be good, but it must be long enough to burn the water vapour out the oil etc or you will just be doing more harm than good.

The general idea is start it up and let it run till the fan kicks in, turns off, kicks in, turns off. That gets it to full temperature which is hot enough to burn off anything that should not be in there.

Have you prepared it for winter storage?

Or is it just sat there after it's last run?

I'd be very carefull just reving the bike up every so often, nc30 plugs are tiny and die very easily. If you dont use the engine under load you just soot the plugs up, I'd take it for a trip round the block after you warmed it, then just give it a wash down.
Or drain the carbs, keep the battery charged and leave it standing.

I agree with the vicar - ride it or just drain the carbs and get it packed up nice and warm. battery either on charge in the bike, or in the house on charge.

So long as you dont' fully choke it for a long time and let it warm up until the fan has kicked in twice (give it some revs occasionally) you shouldn't have any problems.. the engine and plugs will be hot enough to have burnt off any crap from startup and all your condensation out the oil will be gone.

What is winter storage???.It was last used November and I've increased tyre pressure,filled tank washed it and covered the exhuast.It'll be out again soon I expect. I do let the fan kick in and exhuast goes virtually invisible, no condensation. What do you guys think.I realise every time you start an engine you wear it somewhat.
