Compression Test

Hi took my bike out yesterday and the slow running seemed better but I have decided that it will go for dyno but am going to check for major problems with the carbs this week.
Riding it seemed to show that it didn't seem quite as powerful at the top end but did a short test in 3 rd and the revs went to 16500 no problem for a millisecond test.
I don't know if before I start to work on it and have it dynoed if to check compressions before I start to make sure the engine is sound? £25 from Halfords .
I really am in two minds about this?
Opinions please!
Thanks
Mark

To save me buying a compression tester I have the proper vacumme gauges for balancing! Would this not show up a defective cylinder as vacumme would be poor? If I took the ht leads off one at a time won't the vacumme go down on each one.
Come to that could I warm up the engine and remove one ht at a time and the engine should loose the same power on each cylinder?
I don't really want to take plugs out as the threads need cleaning though with a chaser!
Thanks
Mark

I wouldn't worry to much about the compression test, you use it when you think there's a problem it's more diagnostic than actually setting the bike up.
Give the carbs a good clean and leave the rest to the dyno.

Thanks EC carb cleaning next week! Never know what you might find! I'll do the inlet rubber at the same time.

16500 RPM!
If it wasn't fecked already it will be now mate.
15000 is the max even for most race bikes.

No it was the same afterwards, very easy worried me! I feel as guilty as hell I'm not out there doing the carbs but don't fancy the cold!

Nevermind it's done now
keep it to 14,500 as a redline and lets hope the rev counter is inacurate
I recockon the carbs can wait a day or so
