clutch works fine but it's heavy at the lever. When i fitted the new C&S and had all the fron stipped down I did give the cable a look over and it seemed free enough. Is there anything common?
I did a 220 mile ride to wales a few months back over about 4/5hrs and my left hand was the only pain from the journey.

It could have had an extra spring added to it in a former life..

Mine is stiff as fuck..but never slips..

i think it's doubtful as the bike is pretty much unmessed with, mostly original. I doubt it's ever had a clutch fitted. Is it easy to check the clutch on these, I guess I shouldn't be so lazy and should read the manual :-)

pretty much? Even if it's still in original condition it's around 20 years old and probably had numerous owners in the UK and Japan if it's an import.

You don't need to change the clutch to fit an extra spring.. it's not unusual to see.

The clutch is quite easy to check.

Providing the cable is ok then you have the following components.

clutch arm (it's on the sprocket cover) - This should be nice and free (it's spring loaded so expect some resistance)

This pushes the clutch rod. - It'll be stiff against the clutch but should slide in and out of the engine easily.

Clutch itself - You'll need to take the right hand side cover off.. make sure the bikes on the sidestand, you'll need to replace the gasket too... following the Honda shop manual of the haynes you can check the clutch for number of friction and metal plates.. number of springs and overall condition / wear.

I checked the clutch cable, rod, etc when I did the front sprockets and all was nice and free moving. I doubt it's ever had the clutch cover off.
Do you need to drain the oil to remove the right hand case, if it's rocked over on the side stand? I've got to remove the down pipes at some point for repair so will do it all at the some time, along with the valve clearances.
