Even since I had the bike only ever had the "pulling" cable as the other one was cut off! Easy job or difficult as I am not sure if you need to remove carbs to fit return cable?
Thanks
Mark

as long as the throttle snaps closed nice and sharp
i'd go with the old adage "if it aint broke don't fix it"
having said that if you want to replace the cut cable, then it's gonna be a lot easier with the carbs off
it's always best to re-fit the cables before pushing the carbs back down as there a pig to get to, especial the bottom 1 which is, i think, the return

tid def take the throttle apart. sounds like somethin may be catching in there or you have a crushed cable somewhere. i had just the smallest little crimp on the blade throttle cable casing and it made it a pig to return. think id replace both at the same time just to be safe!

Hi yes I have new cables both of them. Because of past history I don't want to take off carbs yet as I need to remove a rounded out hex key on number 2. I will have to drill it which might take hours and have no power in garage and cordless drills!
I thought if I threaded the cables through and connected the return first at the carbs then fit to throttle grip I might be able to do it?

It's a complete bitch of a job with the carbs on, you'll be there fore hours and you'll only do it if you get lucky. Take the carbs off and it's no biggy.
Just make sure your drill bits are sharp and you'll be fine.

best way to drill out knackered bolts or even drill out the drill bit you just snapped off trying to drill out the knackered bolt

is to clamp the offending piece of bike in a vice under a pillar drill with an end mill bit in and just go real slow with plenty of cutting/coolant fluid
(this is also about the only way you can drill out a snapped off drill bit)
there quite expensive compared with drill bit's but worth their weight in gold
here's a link to give an idea of what you need not necessarily this item though
