Which exhaust can?

Post by cress87 »

Gents,

I'm looking at getting an aftermarket end can for my NC23. After months of looking for a used one, I have decided to go new (unless anybody has a good one they want to sell ;) ) and have come up with a few options:

Blueflame Stainless oval (single exit) - £190 delivered

Quill Stainless Oval (single exit) - £188 delivered

Fuel Stainless Oval (single exit) - £155 delivered

I'm unsure which to go for as I've not heard any of them on a cbr400.

Which of those, or any other option I've missed, would people recommend? Limit is £200 really and it needs to be road legal  .

I havent got a link to the blueflame one but I'm sure you all know what they're like.

Thanks in advance. :D

Hi,

Ive got a non road legal micron carbon can on mine and it sounds lovely. :)

It was brand new £60 off ebay about 5 years ago. My blade has a 90's micron beta waiting to go on it if i ever decide to deviate from standard.

Ive got a couple of mates that have recently bought the fuel cans for other bikes and they both seem happy with them.
Too many bikes, so little time!

Well I ordered the fuel one in the end and 2 days later it's sitting here next to me. Will hopefully get it fitted on Sunday and give a verdict. 8-)

Just a quick question, I went to fit the new can today but it didn't come with a gasket. Does this really matter or shall I just bung it on without one? :?:

It shouldnt really matter unless you have fitted it up and can hear/feel a leak where the can joins up with the headers. I used to run my can without a gasket on it for awhile and it was fine, the only reason i refitted a gasket was because the hanger bolt alignment fit better with the gasket in place. My can doesnt use a strap like yours should have though, so im guessing it wont make a difference.

Let us know what you think of the can when its on the bike and running?

Ok, thanks for that. ;)

If it stays dry, I'll fit it tonight and report back.

Cheers.

Right...I fitted it and fired the bike up a few moments ago.

First impressions, it looks better and does sound nice - nice burble at low revs. I shall be taking it out on a run tomorrow though. The baffle is still in place at the moment too. :D

It is however blowing slightly at join with the header pipes so I need a gasket.

Where's the best place to get a gasket? Honda or somewhere else?

Cheers,
Joe.
