Has anyone got a gsxr that runs at normal! Watching youtube vids and every one was on cold! Done the carbs so happy it isn't that. When starting from cold the radiators get warm before the gauge moves off the stop so i am assuming the thermostat is open or missing. Just wondering if anyone has one that is normal that could check if it is the same before i open it up to change?

Hey Chris,
All my fours have run with a low reading with exception to the usual carb(rich) problems. My rads have always run luke warm on the entry side until the thermo opens(from cold)and then got hot which is normal. Every gauge/bike i have had shows a different reading so now i run a translogic dash which give`s a clearer reading (display is numerical). In my experience the fours run probably a little too cool until they are worked hard so a thermo change is probably in order to i think a C B R 6 example( V V will confirm/deny this),if you do a lot of town work/slow speed riding.
I live in the sticks really so i`m at b road speeds most of the time...
Hope this help`s mate.
Andy

Hi chris i rebuilt my carbs last year and am confident that its not running rich but the temp gauge only moves up from just about the top of the c when the bike is running stationary eg stopping at traffic lights i have tested the thermostat on mine seems to open ok but takes ages to shut .So ive gone out and bought a new one not cheap

£34
but have noticed old one is marked 76oc and new 82oc so this alone should make it run hotter.I have seen old posts of people using cbr thermostats because they are 82oc ones.
Hope this helps will let you know how i get on when my bike is back together .Pete

Got my bike back together new stat fitted and fork seals done . Bike warms up quicker from cold and holds a bit more temperature on the gauge when riding and seems to run better .

You need to throw away the standard thermostat and fit a later type fitted to SV650 / 1000. Suzuki part number is 17670-06G50 , temperature is 88 deg and is a straight swap. This is what I run in my GK76A and much improves the running of the bike, as the standard thermostat is too cold.
