Small dent in frame 3tj

Post by ypm25 »

I'v got a lovely sp frame and swingarm that is a low miles race chassis, super clean with original stickers just looks good. I'd like to build it up with a 600 motor and the other bits from my tired old rr.

Thing is its got a ding on the widest part of the frame where its been down the road at some point. I think it would annoy me a bit so before I think about using it is there anyway of getting this removed??

i've filled and repainted a swingarm that was the same as that, used filler and some 'aluminium' (holts paint i think it was) that was a near perfect match to the frame, sanded smooth and lacquered you couldn't see it at all.

It is possible to get the dent removed. I don't know exactly how it's done, but I have looked into this kind of thing in the past.

There's a bloke on Pb forum who can do this kind of work and I found a couple of websites for places that claim they can when I looked into it.

I have a dent in my frame,I think the only way to do this would be to cut a piece out of the back of the frame so that you can get a dollie inside, remove dent then weld the piece back in,well that's what i'm going to do.

Or fill the dent with aluminium and get it taken back to a factory finish? Would that work?

drill it, tap it and use a slide hammer.
Then fill it

Take a picture before and after, if you sell it it's better to disclose the dent.

Thanks! Yea that is why i wanted covers but the getting the dents out might make it a bit more worth it as its got no v5 or plate, allot of effort if its not perfect.

Where did you get the covers evil chicken? They are the kind I would like, black.

I got them off e-bay a while ago.
A16 used to advertise them but you couldn't actually buy them from the website.

that's the best way to take a ding out off a box section,
but it will never pull out perfectly ;)
so you'll end up with filler or a cover of some kind anyway
there's some nice foam pads i've seen on an fzr that are designed to fit where your ding is (wonder why) there about 3" x 2" and oval shaped
sure i saw them on here somewhere have a search
