Chain Slider

Ok, the plastic strip on the rear swing arm, is it there to stop the chain marking the swing arm?

Reason behind my asking is that I'm thinking of doing away with it and making a stainless strip in it's place.
If I did this, considering the chain will always be correctly tensioned, would it be harmful in any way?

Umm... even if it's tensioned within spec there is supposed to be some slack in it, backing off the throttle will create a little slack that might rub against the chainslider.

I wouldn't use a steel one.

I thought that might be case why it is made of plastic, I'll just have to try and clean up my old one

Think you can still buy them new.. if not theres plenty of tasty aftermarket options that are somewhat universal available.

drop chain slider into google and no doubt you'll get a few companies.. specific names arn't coming to mind im afraid

Yep.. would thought it'd wear quite quickly if it was a soft metal or if it was harder than the chain then eat the chain away... not a good thing.

Not even lings have them anymore but 55gbp retail price if you can find one NOS.

Tried looking on ebay for a clean one? After a good wash in kerosene some back to black / silicon spray will get it looking good.
