Alright lads,

My FZR400 is up for sale and i'm doing a couple of bits to make it cock on including oil and filter change. Can you tell me the easiest (proper) way to get to the filter/sump plug with minimum removal of panels? If i attempt without asking first then knowing me i'll probably have it in many more bits than i need to!!

Anyone know if HG are still doing a good deal on oil/filter?

Ta very much,
Rob

Minimum panels off would be the left and right fairing lowers.
Warm the engine up.
Undo the sump plug - it's on the left side by the side stand, you need to catch the oil I use a large decorators roller tray, you need it to be about 2.5 litres.
Unscrew the oil filter and replace it, run a little engine oil on the rubber O ring and over tighten it.
Replace the soft washer on the sump plung and screw it in, again don't over tighten it.

Now with the fairings off - degrease and wash the bike. Lube the chain. put the fairings back on, wash and polish it.

Not sure if Hein Grerik do the deal, if they do and don't have a part for the oil filter get one from a 94 foxeye FZR600R. I think you need about 2.6 litres but it stamped into the clutch cover by the oil filler cap.
Keep the receipts and give them to the new owner.

pretty much as EC said

but a good tip is to make a baking foil tray to go under the filter but above the header pipes so the oil runs over it and into the catch tray,
or when you take the filter off you'll still get a fair amount of oil coming out of the filter and where it screws on to the engine,
which will end up allover the header pipes if your not careful, and it'll smoke like a goodun until it's all burned away when you start it

i think with the filter it's 2.9L of oil
2.6 for just oil change
and 3.5 from rebuild or new engine
but check the manuals
