I have a few chips and scuffs in my front wheel on the 30 and reading this made me think of this.

130/70/16 16" front... hmm. NC24 style but wider with modern rubber.

Anyone tried it on an 30? I can pick up a wheel really cheap so don't mind giving it a punt if nobody has tried it before.

Had a few too many beers to work out difference in ride height and other effects

bought a bike with a blade wheel in once. it looked shit. Never rode it as the motor was fecked and Geoff broke it.

I remember the spacers weren't right..so not convinced it is a straight fit.

Put the beers down and work it out please. But I think I remember hearing with the extra sidewall height they have nearly the same rolling radius

Still got no idea about the net handling effects, but reckon it'd look cool. The 16" tyre tends to look a bit balloon-like compared to the 120/60 usually used on the 400's, but I always find they look a bit too thin, myself.

They are wider, marginally. You would imagine this would mean that there is more grip available. Also that the front and rear tyres are then more similar, so the bike ought to be more flickable? Honestly though these are all guesses. I can't say I noticed a lot of difference after changing to 17" front on my Fireblade, except that tyres became a bit cheaper and much easier to find what you wanted to fit. I imagine the wheel will be lighter, but the tyre heavier, so it'll probably be a negligible weight difference. I never did weigh the wheels, sorry.

The wheels are a perfect fit. I know this for a fact because I have put an nc29/30 wheel in the front of a 1997 Fireblade. However you are dead right about the spacers. Because the Fireblade has 45mm forks, the yokes are wider and so the spacers on each side of the wheel are a little longer. You get around this by simply re-using your nc30 wheel spacers, which will fit perfectly.

No need to guess. Bridgestone (for one) are quite open with the specs of their tyres:

130/70ZR16M/C - Diameter 593mm
120/60ZR17M/C - Diameter 582mm
120/70ZR17M/C - Diameter 603mm

So you see the the 130/70 is half-way between the heights of 120/60 and 120/70. You will need to ensure there is 5mm minimum clearance to the mudguard and to the radiators at full bounce. On the Fireblade you can quite conveniently flip the mudguard brackets around to allow an extra 5mm clearance if you want a 120/70-17.

All in all, if you can find one cheaply with a usable tyre on it, why not give it a go? It is a 1:1 fit, and you might even like it.

Saw and NC35 today.. never really noticed before but the 17" rear looks so small compared to the NC30! :O

Just a note - be sure it's from the right year of Blade. Earliest (92-94?) blades had cable-driven speedos. Not sure if you can easily blank the drive. Latest (98-99) blades have different disc mounting patterns and won't fit without far more effort than it's worth.

It's a shame, I practically gave away a set of Fireblade wheels recently.

I think you'd find it a bit pricey to ship them over to Japan though.

And yep it's an early cable-speedo type. You can blank the drive off though as I think it was the later wheel you could pop the dust-seal out of and fit the speedo drive into, or something like that... can't remember off hand!
