Carb plugs? and more Q's....

Post by asantirims »

Hi there, new to this site and I am finding it a great resource for fixing my new bike (GK73A SP) (I think )
As i am in the process of doing it up. I shall post some pictures later on tonight.
But I was just wandering about the carbs...
When i opened the carb bank up, there was the main jet, and then next to it, was a smaller jet and ontop of that was a small black rubber that looks like it was used to seal the smaller jet? If you know what i;m talking about haha
Anyway long story cut short i have lost one of them do i decided to take them all out dose this matter?
Also My bike is only running on 3 cylinders I have some new iridium spark plugs on the way so hopefully this will sort it out!
I have replaced most of the o-rings accept the idle mixture screw, and a few others because i dont know the locations of them and how to get to them without dismantling the whole bank of carbs.
ANY help is much Appreciated
Regards Jacob

Hi, the carbs are not original and are from a Bandit400. The bodys are the same for each bike but the jetting is slightly different and the gk73a does not have the rubber bungs covering the pilot jets.
They are used on some bikes to make the pilot jets get their fuel from the main jet circuit and not straight from the bowl, its to stop the pilot circuit going either weak or rich from acceleration or braking.
You can change the pilot screw o'ring with the carbs fitted to the bike as it's out side of the float bowl, i'd advise changing these o'rings as they could be the cause of the bad running cylinder.

Ah ok beacuse i have got the iridium plugs and it is still running on 3 :( it also wont rev past 8-6K and will die off if i try to get past it, would that be the o-rings too or something else? It was in working condition before i fiddled round with it although the previous owner did say that the carbs needed balancing,
I have checked the pilot screw seals and the seem OK, but you know more than me about this bikes carb's!
Where would i get these O-rings? I think i messaged you the other day about some?

I have also checked the clip hight on the needles ( 3 down from the top) which i heard is correct, and it still wont rev over 8-6K :(

UPDATE: this is my new bike, I have taken off those horrid lime green stickers and the panel's are at an auto body shop being sprayed metalic black :) I can';t find any decals for the bike so i shall just stick with the original stickers! Also powder coated the rims jet black.
Also regards to my bike, the bike KINDA idle's fine but when I put the choke on full the bike revvs its nuts off.
Also what spark plugs are the best for the bike, I have CR8HIEX which dont fit too well and wont "nip" when at the end of the thread would CR9IEX be more beneficial (the ones that fit)?

I know I'm new to the site but I'm no n00b when it comes to my beloved gk73a. The recommended plugs are the CR9s, so I'd go with them. ;)

o-rings? If you resort to ebay don't get these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/suzuki-gsxr40 ... 500wt_1413

The o-rings I've needed most out of these sets is the one that seals the top of emulsion tube, the ones supplied by this guy are too fat, knocking everything out of line and damaging the carbs if you overtighten the main jet in a vain attempt top pull everything down (been there, done that)

UPDATE:
OK so i am at my wit's end with his bike i have spent +35 plus hours trying to get this started and i had it in working order......
Untill i changed the spark plugs!
The owner that i had bought it off had put CR9EK plugs in it, now i changed those because i thought they were fouled, i had firstly changed them to the shorter CR8HIEX and cleaned the carbs and did a few other things, and hey presto it ran, not well but it ran and it idled,
THEN
Iread that those plugs were the wrong type and so i bought of set of CR9IEX Plugs, Put them in today and...BOOM the bike back fires with a hiss and smoke coming of the battery terminal. GRR another 30 quid down the drain wasted on plugs!
SO i changed the plugs back to the original ones (CR9EK) and it would turn over but it would not start, and spat petrol out of the the mouth of the carb (not sure what one)
So then..
I changed the Plugs back to the ones that i had when the bike started the (CR8HIEX) and it would refuse to start!!
I really am at my wits end guys can anyone please help? i dont know what i have done wrong and i have ran out of ideas to try :(
Cheers in advance

Hi, I supply a FULL set of VITON o'rings for the 76a and 73a, correct size and correct material plus i will help people all i can after they have the o'rings. People put o'rings in that are too big because they get their info from Tony Sleeps site that is super useful but clearly states that he used larger o'rings for a snugger fit plus he had trouble getting every size o'ring.
For the UK road 8's grade plugs are the best, the 9's can be a pain on start up.
Jake, you need to find out if the bike is running Bandit 4 carbs as the jetting is not the same for each bike and they do rev up on full choke, once running you can usually drop the choke back to 1/2.
