Oh dear

So after thinking my bike just had a flat battery, turns out what's happening is that it's charging the battery on idle, but not when the revs increase, hence why it keeps conking out when I ride it anywhere. Needs a new alternator the bike shop said :( Damn it! This second RVF of mine has already caused me more problems than my first, and I've only had it a month!

Charging systems are known for problems.

If in doubt replace the altenator, get an R6 Reg/rec (1999-2005) and replace the battery with a brand new one... always follow battery break in procedures, this is usually a slow charge for 10 hours (check with battery)

if you don't use the bike at least one a fortnight get an optimate, the ones you can keep on and plug it in at least once a week to keep the battery in good condition.

Charging systems dont' like to recharge a deeply discharged battery and it puts extra load on your altenator.. a knackered / neglected battery won't be able to take charge well and this will put strain on your already tiny regulator and burn it out.

If you keep the battery in good condition you shouldn't have any more problems :)

Have you checked the output of the alternator, worth a try before spending the money on a replacement.

Yeah - something like 11 volts when revving above idle :-(

Just curious, how did you check the alternator.
