Hey guys and gals, new here.

Got given an engine setup to transplant into my gsx250f across (runs a 250cc version which is nearly identical bar the cambox/head) off a friend for free, and I'm just looking for info on it basically while i get it up and running.

From what i can gather with a quick search it seems its from a very early model GK71B ~85. Seems like that's the only one without the cast fins on the engine? Would that be right? The engine number starts in K701 and it runs the 2-in-1 carbies. Here's some pics anyway if that helps :)







And does anyone know how the engines changed across all the models? Seems like the engine mounts are different and the bottom ends slightly so.

Yes mate, looks like an early model motor with the two part RH engine cover. Later ones have a one peice and run the crank the other way round- flywheel on the right not the left like yours.

The exhaust manifold i got given for it looks right and it fits the engine, but the 4x mounting flanges seem to be way too big and just slip over the ends of the exhaust manifold. I saw a yoshi full system on ebay a little while ago and the pic didn't have flanges shown on the 4x exhaust pipes.

All the bikes I've seen so far have the flanges put on then the flared out ends welded on so they cant come off. So I'm not sure how they're supposed to mount up and the service manual didn't yield much. Ideas/help would be great there!

Yep! the flanges will slot over the stubs as have a you are suppose to have a set of 8 half collets that go around the subs and then clamped by the flanges. They come up on ebay fairly regularly.
