Running without the exup valve?
In a post about my fzr troubles someone said not having a exup valve could be part of the reason it does run terrible, mine has been removed and just has a bolt where the pulley used to be!
Does anyone else run without the exup? Would it make my bike nearly unridable under 5k and them the power cutting in with a vengeance after 5k?
Thanks
Mark

Re: Running without the exup valve?
it could,
but it depends what you call unrideable ?
with no exup valve it wouldn't have much low/mid range power but should still run fine if a bit sluggish
the exup is not fully open until about 7K rpm but the real power is after 10K rpm with a big kick in the pants at 12K rpm onwards ,
these are awesome little bikes but are designed to rev and then some, hence the exup to give a bit of low / mid range power for road use,
i'd go with the exup and see how it runs,
unless you intend racing it,

Thanks this is for road use only so might have to save up for exup. It really is like being on a buck and bronco!

post in the wanted / for sale section, someone might have one gathering dust on a shelf
sounds like you've already got the right headers and if you have the exup servo fitted (black thing under the tank L/H side on a bracket) then you'll only need the cables about £25 from Mr yam, search on here and make em yourself for about a 5er

Thanks so much! Cables and servo are still there (at least I think I can hear the servo) so would just need the exup assembly!

Have a bit of a play with posting pictures then show us the bolt where the exup is.
P.S. where abouts are you ?

Re: Running without the exup valve?
Do not know how to post pictures yet but if you imagine taking the outer cover off you should see a pulley with the cables around it. This would be connected to the valve inside the exhaust. Well that pulley is gone and replaced by a bolt. No valve just a way to stop exhaust leaking out of where the exup used to be!
Make any sense now?

Re: Running without the exup valve?
Thanks it's something I will do but I don't think it runs so badly just because of that? Do you agree? Think I need to get it running better first then start doing these jobs ? Funny trying to get some standard carbs off nick at the mo and make a good set out of two!
My pm"s are sticking I'm my outbox and not going anywhere. Don't suppose you would be a wizard with that swell?
