I have just bought a mint 1990 fzr400rr a 3tj. It needs a cdi unit and i understand that a 3tj or 40x will fit. will any others fit? Please if you know of anyone who could sell me one of these i would be made up!! Really do need this quick!

Welcome to the forum

The 3TJ is the Japanese import and the 4DX is the UK official bike, although there are differences they are essentially the same bike and a CDI will from either will run your bike. I'm sure other CDI's would also work the wires going into the CDI might be in a different order, the red line of the engine revs would be set lower and they might not work the exup.
If you need a part put a thread in the For Sale / Wanted area - if you put a thread in the FZR forum it will be deleted by the Moderators ... although I'm sure they'll cut you slack for this one (and only) time. If you don't get any joy here have a look on the Bay, I think they go for about £50.

Moving on though .... if you have the CDI on the bike then they rarely go wrong. I take it the bike doesn't start, let us know what the symptoms are and we might be able to help you further.
