Took my bike for an MOT yesterday (pass!!) but in the morning it wouldn't start. Seemed to crank fine but wouldn't fire. Bumped it and got to the MOT fine. But on the way home it died on me.

Pulled to the side of the road and tried to restart but it acted like the battery was flat (clicking solenoid)

Luckily I was on a hill so bumped it and it got home without any issues.

Stopped on my driveway, and when I went to start again, same thing - clicking solenoid.

Normally I have it on an optimiser so no battery issues, but I'd left it off for the last couple weeks.

I left it on the optimiser overnight and it fired up very easily :D

So I'm thinking its not charging whilst its running - anyway of testing this? And is it an easy fix?

I had this sort of problem with my GK76-A.

I had to leave it on a battery charger every night just to get it to start in the morning. If the bike was left standing for any longer than about half a day I would have to bump start it. Despite not firing the engine would turn over normally.

After several trips to a workshop and lots of trauling through forums I found a solution to my particular problem.
The problem I had was the battery just didnt have enough power to turn the engine and create a spark from the plugs.
The stock battery was a 12 volt with 8 amps. After changing the battery to a 12 volt/9 amp the bike was a lot easier to start.

Maybe this is something you could check out or try. It's a quick, simple and relatively cheap fix if it works.

After 4 weeks of trying everything to get my 76 to start properly, took it for a thrash this evening, got back, tried to start it and dead, so after all that i think (hope) i have had exactly the same problem!!!!!
Time for a motobat battery

with the engine running, put a test meter across the battery terminals. If it's charging OK, should be >13 volts.
If its less than 12 volts, it points to the reg/rec unit being faulty. Try riding the bike without the lights on -if it doesnt cut out - its the reg/rec. I have the same problem with my GK71B (9 volts across the battery with the motor running)

If your using the steering lock on a gk76a, make sure that your not leaving the parking lights on. Done it afew times myself
