replacing all four fronts with new ones managed to get 3 out using a sealey stud remover tool and heat having problems with one stubborn bstd that looks like someones tried before without success thread worn away and no nut on it . the tool only does 6mm min and wont grip as a last resort bought a new set of flat jaw irwin mole grips and despite repeated heating etc no luck . i know one trick is to weld onto stud but dont have a welder anyone have any other methods of getting them out

Something I have learned is that the application of a grinding disc can sometimes loosen the 'grip' on a stud, through vibration ... it's pretty extreme, but if you can cut about half an inch off the stud with an angle grinder it might be loosened enough to shift with mole grips.

If it doesn't work, you won't have lost too much of the stud... but proceed at your own risk!!!

If you have the space grind 2 flats on the stud and then use a small spanner on it.

yeah tried holding tongue both ways and was wearing my lucky pants but it still wont budge...

don,t think theres enough on it to grind flats dm it must be worn down to around 4mm as is. noticed on the others i removed that the threads on the engine side were clean still had the plated finish no sign of threadlock or rust so at a guess it must be fused at the unthreaded bit to the head .

might try wrapping some ptfe tape round it before having another bout of cursing and see if that gives the grips more purchase on it

Have you got space to weld another nut onto it? Done that before on other stubborn bolts.

Im in the same postion all the rear ones came out easy although 3 of the front ones are seized, Ive resorted to the fact that I will prob have to drill them out and retap the holes.

If you have enough stud to grip get some heat on it,but it will have to be good heat (cherry red)
let it cool down, you should now be able to remove it the your molegrips.

Couple of tips.

Soak them in plus gas for a couple of hours.

* If you can get a drill chuck on there clamp them up as tight as in a drill chuck and put the drill in low gear reverse and they'll come out easy.

* Use a dremel and cut a slot in the end... plus gas it up again and heat it until it's glowing red... whack it with an impact driver and it'll come out easy.

* use a mig-welder and tack an 8mm / 10mm nut on the end of it and unscrew it with a ratchet or spanner.
