Finally got around to trying to fit R.O's chain spacer kit last night and all was going well until trying to remove the sprocket carrier.

Despite my best efforts (including jabbing with a large scaffold pole (cant find my hammer)) this will not come off.

I have taken the wheel off for better access but left the sprocket on to give something to aim at when swinging. But despite a lot of "penetrating fluid" and brute force i am wondering whether this is seized onto the splines.

Any advice here? Next steps i suppose are blow torch and bearing puller neither of which i have.

This is annoying as was meant to be a "quick" job last night ahead of ride later today...

there is a circlip isn't there? You talking of pulling the axle through the back of the hub?

Yes there's a circlip and I never seem to have the correct size pliers which makes it a mare to get off.

there is a circlip to get the axle out..but is there one to stop the holder coming off the splines? hmm.... I don't remember any problems pulling that shit off....get it clean and see what's what...whacking it is a bad call

Not looking to remove the gold (at least on the NC35) carrier that the rear sprocket is attached to.

So far i have the wheel, chain and nut off which holds the carrier on. It seems that the carrier itself will not pull off the hub splines.

Sounds from the above that this should come away without much resistance though.

I have a mate with a hydraulic bearing puller who will call in tonight.

Suppose will be less destructive (but less enjoyable) than twatting with a scaffold pole!

PS- I would have used a hammer but moved to new build house recently and it's gone missing (hence availability of scaffold pole!)

put the hub nut on backwards so the hex is facing you and the bendy bit is inwards and hit the face of the hub nut/axel outwards put a piece of wood over the hub nut, it sould start to budge when you get close to the carrier comming off, take the nut off, and then just tap the face of the disc carrier and not the disc.

ignore the above comments with regards to the circlip, your not removeing the hub, your just removeing the carroer which is slotted onto the axel and held in place with the 46mm hub nut, dont for get to take the caliper off as youll bend the brake disc.

Correct. Scaffold poles are not part of my toolkit, ill-fitting circlip pliers are though.

that'll teach me not to reply to posts while still half asleep!

Unbelieveably despite a hydraulic bearing puller, this is still not coming off!

Next steps will be a blow torch over the weekend. After that and if still nothing, the angle grinder is coming out...

Anyone have a spare sprocket carrier for sale?!?!!
