Gday All, Ive Purchased a 748 Marchesini rear wheel for my NC30 and am planning to do the conversion,
my question is has anyone done this conversion latly and what should i do to do it properly???

And if anyone has already done this if so have you had any real problem with the difference in tracking?

Also im just about ready to fit a 04 cbr600 rear shock and also wandering if i will have to change the spring to accomodate a different spring ratio,

Hi, you bought a 6" 5 spoke then ? i think you are going to need to pack it out so it sits off centre, and move the sprocket / chain out too.

CBR spring needs to be changed quite a bit, ratio is different and it will feel very very soft at the back with the std spring.

Be easier to put a duc rear swinger on it, your need a 800-850lbs spring for that shock

748 wheel Fitted to my old NC30



I needed to space the wheel out (to the right) with a one off spacer 4.5mm thick then also move the chain out by 5mm on the other side (left) to clear the tyre - I used Rick O's chain spacing kit.

I'm not sure if the wheel needed modifying as it was already converted when I bought it.

And are the Rick O's chain kits real hard to get hold of??

The wheel is a 5.5" wide 5 spoke, not only have you got to machine the centre of the rim but turning down the hub is needed to leave a little extra meat on the inside of the rim,
I will also be taking of around 2.8 mm off the spacer diameter and countersinking it into the outside face of the rim just so I can install the split pin back in,


Smev did you notice any difference in the tracking on a straight road or corners??

Sounds like they shimmed the swingarm to the left to re-establish the centre... no worries about tracking then.

I would have loved to fit a 5 spoke rear wheel to make it look trick but no-one was doing anything like it at the time.

The wheeel I fitted was I believe 5" wide and still a tight fit.

It was very close to the swingarm, and once the tyre was fitted there was only a few mm gap from the tyre. the chain was also very close to the tyre.

I didn't notice any problems with the handling - but then I'm no bike riding god who can feel everything thats going on!!

It handled well enough for me to do this!

Yeah shes gonna look pretty smooth once the rims are sprayed in repsol orange!!!

At the moment the hub is being machined done to accomodate and im even thinking about polishing the inside edge of the swing arm a mil or two for a bit more clearance

once i get the gear back home from being machined ill upload some pics.
