Hi Guys, i was in hein gericke today and i saw the little chrome power filters to replace the airbox. Obviously its not just a case of screwing them on due to the number of hose attached to the airbox.

Is it worth doing a mod like this? if so can anyone point me in the right direction to fit something like this or where i could get an induction kit, i looked on k&n but they dont have one for a gsxr 400.

thank you

Col

Dont go there, you will spend a load of money and then end up back on the airbox. The gsxr is very touchy about its carbs and hates pods. There is a K&N available, its a non specific fit unit and its part number has been listed on this forum before so you will have to have a dig in past post's.

Ok cool thanks for that info. I'm new to these bikes really along with any other bike actually. Silly question time but I'm guess the K&N filter your talking about is for the inside of the airbox or is it a different filter all together?

You would remove the OE filter from the airbox and replace it with the K&N unit, think the link below is the correct one but im not 100%. If you get one and it dont fit im not taking the blame but i'd swear it was the one.

Hi, i found another link which has the same part no. Ebay sell them but they dont mention 400 only gsx600/750's.

I just had a look at my air filter and when i unscrewed the air filter was attached to the panel/lid, so how does the K&N filter fit.

There was never one made for the 400, its a DIY job. The K&N comes with a plate which you attach to the airbox, the filter is fastened to this and you have a couple of plugs that can be fitted to the opening of the filter. On a road bike you could fit the smaller plug and on a track bike open it up and adjust the jetting (if needed).

The K&N from the 600/750 plastic pig goes straight in. The smaller port bung is close to standard jetting. possibly one or two jet sizes up with no pilot jet changes.
But go to the large bung but expect be going to 117.5 main jet or larger and playing with pilot jets and needles to get anywhere close and hours of dyno time depending on how good you tuner is.

That is only for a 76a.
