I've been reading through the forum and it seems I'm not the only one without a black plastic whatsit on my fuel tap. I've just left it on reserve for now.

Is this what everyone else does??? I'm too thick to do that I think, I'll run out of petrol every other week. Some options as to what I could do to sort it would be well appreciated!

seems a bit pricey.. It might be worth phoning fowlers for a quote. If you do put it on I advise a big orange sticker on the actual tank reminding you to unscrew it off before you lift the tank...... thats how they get broken

If the lever's missing then chances are the tap's been broken too, but Fowlers should do it cheaper than that. You should also buy the locating screw with it.
When you ring Fowlers you'll have to quote the frame number (on the V5).

You have to take the lever off before you lift the real fuel tank off the bike or you'll break the lever.

Consider changing the airbox / carb rubbers too if they've gone hard, you'll save on postage if you them together.

Thanks for the responses. Oddly my old tap used to be a bit round disk of plastic, not a sticky out one like that. I wonder if I have a tank off a different model FZR400 then. I think I'll try bodging the tap and if that doesn't work I'll chance my arm with Fowlers. Pictures to come!

Good tip on the carb rubbers too - everything is disintigrating. I've replaced all of the o-rings in the coolant system. The carb rubbers are passable but poor, so I'll get those next time I purchase something from Fowlers. The big bit of rubber above the head is in pieces... not sure what to do about that as well. I'm on a serious, serious budget!

I need to undo 3 bolts to take it off rather than 1, but I can live with that. Nice and tight and easy to turn.
