Hi guys,

I recently bought an '85 NC24 and loving every moment of it :)

As it was second hand, I'm not quite sure what work has (or rather, has not) been done on it before so i'm somewhat keen to give it a good working over and get all the maintenance done.

Unfortunatly i'm not a mechanic and don't *really* know where to start although i'm the kind of person that once i've seen something once, I can do it myself again the next time.

As you can probably guess, I wouldn't mind finding someone local(ish) who wouldn't mind giving me a hand doing the airbox, carbs and front forks for the first time.

I'm perfectly happy to travel anywhere relatively local (south of Scotland/north of England) and of course, I would be perfectly happy to exchange a nice bottle of alcohol for someone's time :D

You may need to up your offer of a bottle of plonk with that lot needing looked at.

Bikes a doddle to work on baring the exhast system which is fiddley!

I'm in the process of scanning in the workshop manual (although you'll either need to read Jaanese or find a fluent friend!)

Just finished replacing my Battery / Alternator / Regulator/rectifier and waterpump!

Airbox is a doddle....

Undo the Tank bolts x 3 (one by the yoke on the top and two at the sides near the seat, there all 10mm)

lift the tank off (you'll need to get your hand under to disconnect the fuel pipe and the vaccum pipe and the breather pipe, don't worry you can't mix them up, the fuel is massive, the breatherpipe is 'medium size' and the vaccum pipe is tiny!

you'll see the airbox! 6 screws on the top and the lid comes off to reveal the airfilter, underneath the air filter are 5 more screws, take these out and the airbox comes off giving access to the carbs themselves!

With a little determination and intuition, you can get all the help you need from a Haynes manual and this forum. More independence creates more confidence too :)

Indeed, just a little nervous of taking it apart in case something goes wrong and I make some mistake that's going to hurt me on the road.

With regards to the forks, how big a job is it to get them off and replace the oil and seals?
