Bike back together, but not starting.
Bike is back together, did valve clearances, oil filter, air filter.
When trying to start the bike now, it spins good, but doesn't fire, it seems to be getting fuel.
Have tried with various positions of choke/throttle, might need new plugs.
Any suggestions?

vacuum plugged in right? patience?
kill switch?
fuel on?
actually got fuel?
does it try to fire at all? or does it just spin over?
have you looked at the plugs?> wet? oily? sparking at all?

Re: Bike back together, but not starting.
Have got no plug spanner, have never needed to get them out. Vaccum hose is connected to the horisontal connecter on the fuel tap.
Kill switch checked, flipped it a couple of times, not measured with a multimeter.
Fuel is on and getting through the tap, but can't say that it reaches the bowls.
Gave a little "Ump" at one time, but nothing else.
Patience? Over 45 secs on the starter button over several times, plus a bit of waiting time to let the fuel reach the bowls.

Sounds like a ballache man..
13mm deep socket will get your plugs out matey..
Have you checked with a temporary fuel line? There are two spigots on the tap - do you have one down and one across?
Across is the one I would use too.
45 secs on the starter should easily get you some fuelling and firing action!
I would guess you have something really obvious not connected seeing as you have had the whole top end off the bike...but what!?

Re: Bike back together, but not starting.
Bike is a runner again, took a bit more patience and 20 secs extra on the starter.
Let the bike heat up, shut it off, and started instantly, hope this was only the first time startup thing :)
However, smoke is appearing from the rear of the engine, thought I had done the manifold up properly, but I am little bit worried now. The space to get that manifold in is so tight.

Re: Bike back together, but not starting.
did you bolt the rocker cover down and remember the little rubber grommets?
I left one out on ym first attempt and had slight seepage out of the motor..I was so stressed it took me several stellas to calm down!
Glad to hear it is running though! get your head in there and see if it is oil, cleaning stuff or exhaust smoke..

It's all in place, no seepage that I can see, it is exhaust smoke I think. Its pulsating.
Maybe just start up after a long time, we will see.

Re: Bike back together, but not starting.
Can you actually hear the exhaust blowing? If not then it's unlikely that. When I first fired mine back up after a fresh engine there was a hazy smoke from all the exhausts and especially the rears which afaik is quite normal from all the copper grease etc. i'd been using on the gaskets and bolts which had obviously gotten onto the pipes. It went away a few startups and warmsups later and is now fine.

Only place I 100% know that it is blowing from is where the pipe meets the can.
