It smokes like a bleeding chimney!!! ARSE!!!
At that point i lost all interest for today and shoved it back in the garage and stomped off!
I suppose i best do a compression test next find out which cylinder is letting the side down!
It looked like white smoke to me which would suggest head gasket maybe??
How easy is it to get hold of gasket sets for these??
and finally can i remove the head with the engine still in the frame? Just trying to make life easier!
Unless someone here has a gk73 engine available??
Cheers
Grumpy Griff

How long has it been sat for?
It "may" be condensation in the exhaust....

I think it got warm enough to evaporate any condense that was there to be honest.
Just thought the fuel is old so could old/stale fuel cause smoke??
Anyone know if there are any differences between the 76 and 73 engines / heads??
to be honest if i cant fix it fairly cheaply then it'll be broken up for spares! Shame really as its in good nick for its year!!
Thanks Griff

Hi Griff,
Give it a good warm up as it may be the fact its stood. The 76a head is completly different from the mounts to the valve stem thickness everthing. Head has to come off to do the gasket and bandit 4 fit.

I have exactly the same problem. tried to see if it would clear itself by leaving it to warm up but no joy.
Took the head off today and pistons/bore are pristine but the exhaust ports have that much of an oily carbon build up it looks like a 2stroke
looks like its the valve seals that have gone so looking for a full gasket set.
Is the gk73 gasket set the same as a 400 bandit
Does anyone have a part number and know where to buy one?

ITS DEAD!!!!!
While investigating the engine fault and preparing to drop the motor out I spotted what I thought was a crack on the rear lower engine mount. So I dropped the lump out and off fell the sodding mount!!
So its fucked and I can't be arsed to put anymore time + cash into it so I'm gonna break it up!!
Don't ask for parts on this thread please! PM me or watch for a thread in the forsale section!
RIP!!
