forks - wtf?

right, I is proper confused! swapped the sp forks into the track bike and put the track bike forks onto road bike, no problem there. Decided to swap a fork cap for a better condition one off a set of spare forks. However...the set I put into the bike have a tube type spacer at the top about 120mm long. The spare set had no such spacer just a top hat aligner and the spring to the top of the fork.
So my question is: Did yamaha make different types of forks for 3tj's? the spares have ohlins stickers on but that means nothing! any one got any ideas and which set are likely to be correct?
cheers!

a 120mm spacer at the top is standard for the tj with a 346mm spring ( free length )
i gave mine the maxton treatment and have spacers of 216mm and springs of about 250mm (off the top of my head)
not sure what you've got but even the sp forks had a spring under the top nut/adjuster
don't sound standard though, perhaps the stickers are right :o

I reckon you've got a home brew suspension tune. Some body has fitted a second spring to act as a kind of Hi / Low rebound thing. It probably doesn't work any better than standard ... then again if it does happy days

Someone could have put the spacer under the spring? Don't know if it would fit but most forks have that spacer above the spring

cheers guys,
the ones on it seem to be 'original' with a little more oil for track.
as for the others there's def not anything under the spring, i have no oil in it and can take it out and see! i'll have to get a few pics for comparison. only one spring too!
oh well guess when it's MOT'd i could always try em out!
