A N Other 3TJ 4/6 in the offing

I got a 3TJ a couple of weeks ago, had a couple of rides out on it and then a complete 4JH came up at the right price...
So, here we are;
It's a 3TJ frame-
with a 4JH engine stuffed into it-
The top rear mount is tightened up to square the engine in the frame, and the bottom rear mount is in place just to get the engine position correct-
Yes, I know it's filthy

It will be cleaned up before I nail it together properly. Maybe
Right side, loads of room-
Left side, about 1mm. I will need to remove material from both the engine and frame to avoid the need for countersunk M10x1.25 bolts (unobtanium)- I'll be able to use button heads instead

-
and a quick one of the chain alignment-
I also sized up a TRX/600R/Thundercat rear wheel in the 3TJ arm and it'll go. The left side spacer needs to have a couple of mm taken off to centre the wheel and I'll need to make a new (thinner) caliper hanger to accomodate the larger disc but it looks pretty do-able. It makes sense to try it cos I've got three of the bloody things cluttering the sheds up
It will be getting a Thunderace front end to keep it relatively standard looking and I'm hoping to have it vaguely thrown together in a couple of weeks cos it's still taxed and MOTed

I did a little more this afternoon

I got some 5mm steel strips from college and tacked the two together so when I drilled and tapped them they'd be the same. I forgot to take some pics of the mounts but I'll get some tomorrow or whenever.
Anyhoo, here are a couple of pics with the mounts in place-
I had tightened the upper rear mount to square the engine then bolted through to the right side engine mount- the lower rear mount was in place but not tight. I had already taken 5mm off the inside of the left frame mount to accommodate the plate and I've since taken 3mm off the engine mounts too.
Once the right side engine mounts are tightened the spacers sit nicely against the mounting plate (no pic- tomorrow).
All (ha!) that I need now are the button head bolts (ordered

) and the time to throw the whole lot back together.
So, yes, in my case I did have to modify the frame to get it all square :icon_blackeye: but it's done and was a whole lot less painless than I thought it was going to be

If anyone wants the measurements for the plates with all four holes in the correct position (ie no DIY drilling!), send me a PM and I'll send you a drawing, but you
do need to remove at least 5mm from the inside of the left frame mount, and some from the engine if you're not using countersunk bolts.
edit- These are the plates I'll be having made-
They will require the frame to be modified (which took me all of 10 minutes to do) and line the engine up correctly.

I did some more stuff today, huzzah!
I got the engine plates fitted-
Dunno why they didn't focus ok

I ended up having to take 1.5mm off the left side bolt faces to line the engine up. Countersunk bolts would've got round that

but I'd still have had to take 5mm off the left frame mount.
Engine in

-
I need two 4mm spacers between the left side plate and the frame, but used washers in the meantime.
So that's the engine in place and fitted, ready to go- woop!
The Thunderace yokes fit straight in the 3TJ frame-
The forks are scruffy but should clean up ok.
I made a start on sorting the rear wheel too, and made a spacer for the left side to centralise the wheel and line the chain up-
It's close, but there's a couple of mm clearance with the wheel as far forward as it'll go, which is nice.
The right side is a little trickier, the TRX/Thundercat disc is bigger so I'll have to make a thin (6mm) hanger and a couple of spacers to shove the caliper out but it'll all work out ok-
That's it for now.

Keep on going Kayla its making good inspiring reading !

Thanks!
The Thunderace forks are 48mm rwu and are fully adjustable and I've got some R1 gold spots to go on them but the spindle is 22mm so I'll probably end up using the Thunderace front wheel unless I can figure out some spacers to use the 3TJ wheel. They're longer than the 3TJ forks but the top yoke isn't angled so won't look odd, hopefully
There's an R6 shock to put in but it's currently at the engineering firm to use as a gauge for the shock adapters I'm having made.
I've got some stuff to do today but I'll try and get a little more done later on.

I got the new engine plates today-
Both sides are identical-
and I got a little further on the rear brake hanger-
It fits over the right side spacer and is held captive against the swingarm taking away the need for a third hand when you refit the rear wheel, I've still got some tweaking to do but this is pretty close to the final shape.
