spring cleaning

well i'v given the tj an early birthday (mot in a couple weeks) so i thought i'd go the hole Hog
very nearly stripped her down over the last couple of days, the only thing i didn't take out was the engine although iv'e had the top off and did the valve clearances today, not bad at all 13 out of 16 within tolerance and the 3 that were out were all intake, (so nice and easy) 1 a strait swap, so only had to by 2 shims (£3.00 each exchanged, result).
had the clutch apart, as i'd had some issues end of last summer (clutch was slipping but only above 60mph+
and only in 6th, if i wound her up
) iv'e checked all the friction and clutch plates which were well within tolerance and the baskets in good shape, so i put some new EBC clutch spring in, (the oem springs measured up pretty good as well
).
so after some head scratching (and having the sprocket casing off anyway), i gave the other side a paraffin bath and bloody good scrub off, now the clutch is smoooooth, (MR Yam blew it on that mechanism, it was full of chain lube, grit and road kill)
anyway the other job's in no particular order
headstock checked & greased
wheel bearings checked & greased
chain and sprockets are good so a soak and lube did the job
brakes cleaned and bled (new EBC hh pads end of last summer)
rad off and cleaned new fluid in (recruited my nipper and a trimmed lolly stick to straiten the fins, he charged me £10, they bleed you dry
)
new NGK plugs
another 2mm off the fork spacers (as it was still a bit harsh)
now i just gotta put the cockpit and indicators on the front, and a quick trip down my mates for some carbi balancing
then it's elbow grease time with the cut -n- polish and a good wax
and once she's dressed i'd take her anywhere
