While googling for other stuff, I've found this link

Tapping from NC30 top end?
The VFR series suffer from a tapping at tick over, caused by the camshafts moving sideways. There is a cure, to drill an oil hole into the cam carrier to allow oil pressure to keep the cam over. Personally, I'd let the thing tap, but here is some Honda info I got off the 'net

GOOD FIND,
all though the engineers report states for a VFR750,
but still it may cure some noise in the NC30 and youd need to find out if the cam blocks are the same as the 750, but its not a problem, 20years of engine going strong so doubt the tapping noise is causing any long term problems.

Just pull the quitening gears out and forget about the noise

not seen a vfr that was worn for a while, mainly old 750s. youll only notice it if your cam journales are worn enough to allow the came to move up and down slightly

if the cam journales are worn would it cause and damage or problems i have a simular noise to this as described and it bugs me, my nc has around 39k on the clock, or could it be something else?
is it fixable without drilling stuff? or should i just not worry about it?
cheers
Bill,

That's what I do.
It's pretty normal for the tappets to be loud when the engine is hot.

Hopefully mine is the same. It taps from the left side and has me worried. Doesn't always tap though.
Was thinking valve clearance check might fix it but don't have the money or tools to get it done yet.

Dude you don't need money to check them, that's free....
I did mine the other week and found them all tight by 0.10mm so worth checking as mine runs really well now.
