Snapped Clutch Spring Set Bolts! Why!?
I read in the manual it states these should be tightened to a torque setting of 7-11 nm. I set my torque wrench (brand new) to 9nm and I start to tighten away in the specified manner (star pattern). Two bolts snap before the wrench meets the specified torque setting... why? I have used the original bolts which came out if this makes any difference. I feel that any bolt I am putting back is just pointless now.. It's getting a little disheartening seeing bolts break so easily.. I just really want to know, why..?
Thanks.
P.S - Would anyone know what locking tool I will need to remove the bolt holding the basket on? I will need it off now to extract the broken bolts, Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Snapped Clutch Spring Set Bolts! Why!?
Hi,
The spring bolts are real lightweight and i know a couple of guys who have raced the gsxr throw old ones away and only use new bolts. Ive had one go on me while using the torque wrench and now i bring the bolt up to close to the lower service rate and then feel them in with a standard spanner, you can actually feel them pinch, lock and then if you load them too much, feel them stretch which is not good. These are the only bolts you will get problems with unless you take conrods off the crank as the book gives torque rates for these bolts but they are stretch bolts and need renewing and a correct rate set.
I made a holding tool from a set of old steel plates- take one down ya local breakers and see if you can get some old plates to weld to a piece of bar.

You can get a holding tool from ebay for about £25 that will fit lots of different things very useful in the garage.
I do the clutch bolts on my FZR with an 8mm socket on a hand held driver adapter, hand tight only with no problems.

Thanks for the tips guys.
I ended up buying a tool from Ebay which was a Universal holding tool, and it worked very nicely! It held the cage perfectly.
I managed to sorce some bolts for the cage and it is now done! What a relief :)
